The talk explained the different types of IP, the reasons for their development and what can be done to reduce the risk of them of occurring on commercial flocks. A presentation on the causes of feather pecking and measures of prevention was given. Advice guides were handed out to the field staff, which can be used to aid their talks with their producers on farm visits. This was a free event, open to members of the public who wanted to learn more about chickens. The two day event had a session focused on injurious pecking and the move away from beak trimming. Jon gave a talk about the underlying causes of feather pecking (FP), the risk factors for FP and how to reduce the risk of it occurring on commercial farms.
